SV Unbelievable

Our girl is a Cascade 42 Highsides, originally built in 1988 in Portland, OR by Yacht Constructors Inc. Cascades are known for being solidly built bluewater cruising boats; the advertising materials for the company used to feature yard workers firing .308 and .45 caliber bullets into the side of a hull and watching them bounce off. As if that weren’t enough, Unbelievable’s hull was laid up with 2 extra layers of fiberglass and an Airex foam core for stiffness and insulation. She is Hull No. 106 of the Cascade 42 series. After her hull was completed, her first and only previous owner brought her back to Anacortes, WA and built out her interior himself with incredible craftsmanship over a period of four years. We are still finding little details here and there that both make sense nautically and are simplistically beautiful in their construction. She launched in 1992 and her owners sailed her seasonally in the Pacific Northwest and Canada for 15 years. They passed her on to us in 2019 and have been an invaluable resource as we’ve undertaken a major refit of her systems and equipment. She’s relatively narrow so she sails fast and efficiently and has a pleasant motion even in rough seas, and we have complete confidence in her seaworthiness. We can’t wait to see where she’ll take us!
